Ways to improve client communication

This topic is really important to me because it is pivotal for effective outcomes. Most times when a client has an issue or something going on with thier taxes and finances, they are not always honest and upfront with their preparer. It is extremely important to always be honest and upfront with your preparer. If there is something that you may have done, that you are embarrassed about or not happy with, in most cases, if you are honest, WE CAN HELP! It is never good to go in and leave out information, because then, you are making your preparer question your trustworthiness. An honest and upfront relationship is the best relationship to have with your accountant/income tax prepaer.

Some reasons a Client may feel the need to be dishonest:

--Dishonest about being married but don't want to carry a spouse due to spousal debt

--Married and not honest about spouse debt, to see more refund money; if you dont tell your preparer your spouse has debt, they wont know and there is a strong possibility the IRS will take your refund or amount owed for your spouse. If the preparer knows this there are forms that can be filled out to possibly avoid this issue (if qualified)

--Dishonest about dependents

--Income: Leaving income off because you are in a hurry to get refund or because it will reduce your refund (this is not good because the IRS will find it and most preparers charge extra money to do amendments)

--Head of Household is something that people will try to claim, even knowing that someone else already used the HOH, or that someone else is the HOH

Those examples are just a few. With each example, if you are just honest and upfront about the issues, most times your preparer can assist you with alternatives to benefit you!

Thank you for your time and I hope you enjoyed this blog.
